Born and raised in Minneapolis, Annie Nimmo trained at Ballet Arts Minnesota, under the direction of Bonnie Mathis, and went on to join the Springboard Dance Company. She has attended training programs with the American Ballet Theatre and Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts. Annie danced in college at UW-Madison and graduated with a BA in history. In 2011 she danced professionally with Madison Contemporary Vision Dance Company, and performed in various contemporary ballets. Annie returned to Minneapolis in 2012 and danced with Cities Classical Dance Ensemble and Continental Ballet Company where she had the opportunity to dance the Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, and the Arabian Princess and Flower Queen in The Nutcracker.
Annie joined Ballet Minnesota, in September 2015, where she had the honor to premiere Andrew Rist’s, Ave Maria. Annie is currently a guest dancer and choreographer with the Minneapolis Ballet Dancers.
Annie has many years of teaching experience in both classical and contemporary ballet with students of all ages. She is skilled in training dancers in technique, pointe work, and in coaching students in classical ballet variations; at national dance competitions, her students competed repertoire, such as Kitri from Don Quixote and the Lilac Fairy from Sleeping Beauty.
Annie is also an accomplished choreographer, she has created works for many of her students as well as professional dancers. She is proficient in choreographing for all ages in both contemporary and classical ballet. This past year she created an award winning piece en pointe for her dancers which placed overall at multiple national dance competitions.
In 2016 Annie joined forces with Northland School of Dance as Ballet Director. Together with her teaching team, Annie will draw on her prestigious training and professional career to further Northland’s best-in-class Professional Ballet Program.
