Catching Up With Lauren Retka – NSOD 2019 Graduate

Hello! My name is Lauren Retka.
I am a graduate of Northland’s 2019 Senior Line.
Although it has been a while since my time at Northland, it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I started dancing at Northland at the age of 10. Upon my arrival, I was greeted with warm smiles and open arms, something I continue to get to this day. The Northland staff shares the passion for dance with many young dancers and teaches important life lessons that have gotten me where I am today. The first words out of my mouth after walking through the front door were, “I wish I had come here sooner.”
After eight years at NSOD, I was not ready to let dance out of my life. I auditioned and made the Iowa State Dance Team for the 2019-2020 season. During my time on the dance team, we have had multiple opportunities to compete in state, national, and world competitions. We recently took home both a Pom National Championship and a gold medal from The Dance Worlds Competition. I am currently a Senior majoring in Elementary Education and finishing my final year on the dance team.

I look forward to visiting Northland after finishing my final year here at Iowa State and working with all the young talent NSOD has to offer. Thank you to Barb, Ashley, and the rest of the Northland staff for always being a bright light and inspiration in my life. I would not be where I am today without you!
