33 years ago Northland School of Dance was the first competition dance studio in the Twin Cities to offer a formal ballet program within its class lineup. Over the years the program has grown and expanded and we are extremely proud of how far it has come. We are honored over the recognition it has received, and are in gratitude to a multitude of individuals who have helped us grow this program over the years.
Professional Ballet Program
Today, we are making the biggest single advancement in our Ballet program since it’s inception, taking our Ballet program to an even higher level. We are both proud and excited to announce that through the vision of Northland School of Dance’s new Ballet Director – Annie Nimmo – we will be launching our inaugural Professional Ballet Program in the 2016/2017 Dance Season. Together with her teaching team, Ms. Nimmo will draw on her prestigious training and professional career to create a best-in-class Professional Ballet Program.
Professional Ballet Program at Northland School of Dance
This new program will follow a structured sequence of training stages intended to develop each student’s technical skills, stamina and discipline in accordance with their age and physical development. Classes include company, technique, pointe, character, repertoire classes, guest master teachers and more. Classes are calibrated to build towards strength, speed of execution, increasing complexity in combination of steps and in each student’s personal development of artistry. Northland puts a strong focus on correct placement and dance education to avoid injury and maintain healthy bodies and healthy lifestyles.
Northland’s new ballet curriculum will embrace traditional ballet principles and incorporate elements of French, Italian and Russian training systems. The program will provide an encouraging and professional atmosphere, and will support the growth of classical and contemporary ballet by maintaining the highest standards of technique while nurturing the talent of every student – both recreational and competition based.
