What Are The Benefits of Summer Dance Classes?

April 30, 2022 by Northland School of Dance

Summer dance classes are great for all levels of experience, from the very beginner recreational dancer who has never stepped foot in a studio, to the seasoned competition dancer, and there is something for everyone in between!

Whether signing up for an intensive or a week-long dance camp, or trying out a hip-hop class, learning new tricks in an acro class, fun character themed classes, pom classes, stretch class, progressing ballet techniques, and more, there are benefits for all when you sign up for Summer Dance Classes.

For the Recreational Dancer:

For young beginners, summer dance classes are a great way for parents to foster trying new activities. There are those enthusiastic little ones who want to try everything from dance to gymnastics to soccer to art classes, scouts, and more. And there are also the more cautious little ones who want to try things but take longer to warm up to actually doing it. During this time when little ones are still discovering which kinds of activities they love, short summer dance sessions for recreational students are designed to be a FUN experience without a long-term commitment. Parents will often choose 2 or 3 short sessions with different themes to extend the fun throughout the summer.

A few of the benefits from summer dance sessions for recreational dancers are:

  • It’s a fun opportunity to continue developing social skills and make friends.
  • An increase in coordination and confidence.
  • It introduces fun ways to incorporate new fitness activities.
  • It’s a great boredom buster throughout the summer and balances other activities without consuming too much time.
  • Especially when there are older siblings involved in summer activities, it’s a great way for the younger ones to have their own activity to attend and feel proud of.
  • It’s fun they look forward to!

Pre-Comp Level Dancers

For those who have been dancing in Pre-Comp classes or are considering Pre-Comp classes for the upcoming season but aren’t sure yet, or just want more advanced classes than recreational classes, Summer Dance classes for Pre-Comp level dancers have much to offer.

Some of the benefits for these dancers are:

  • The ability to try new styles of dance without a big commitment.
  • Work on a particular turn or leap or stretch that they want to master.
  • Learn new combinations and gain confidence while prepping for an audition.
  • Have FUN!
  • An opportunity to take classes from instructors they may not have had before.
  • Make new friends and build camaraderie & sense of community with a bigger group of dancers as they attend classes, have fun, laugh, and learn combinations together.
  • Set dance goals for the coming year.

Competition Level Dancers

Dancers who have already been dancing competitively will benefit from Summer Classes as well. and Attending summer intensives, technique classes and dance-camps provide them the opportunity to:

  • Competition dancers were training during the dance season to perfect routines performed in competitions, and now it’s time to learn keep skill fresh, learn some new moves and get motivated to stretch & grow in preparation for the upcoming season!
  • Work on a particular turn or stretch that will help to advance to new competition lines.
  • Experience shared excitement and motivation with dancers from other groups during intensives and dance-camps that haven’t previously been in the same classes together.
  • Strengthen current skills, learn new routines, and gain confidence needed for auditions.
  • Set dance goals for the coming year.
  • Be a role model for younger dancers.
  • Make new friends and build camaraderie & sense of community with a bigger group of dancers as they attend classes, have fun, laugh, and learn combinations together.
